The Episcopal Student Center, also known as Canterbury House, began as a recognized student club on the campus of Texas A&M in August of 1943. Since then, Canterbury has contributed greatly to the “other education” that Texas A&M is known for, specifically as a place for the Episcopal student community to worship together, to pray, to study, to break bread together, and to build relationships.

The Episcopal [ih-pis-kuh-puhl] Church welcomes all. We worship Jesus Christ in 109 dioceses (geographical regions, each under the care of a different Bishop) and three regional areas in 17 different nations. The Episcopal Church is a member province of the worldwide Anglican Communion, an international association of churches consisting of the Church of England and of national and regional Anglican churches in full communion with it. In particular, we are a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas which is deeply committed to "missional communities" like ours where people meet one another and God in non-traditional settings.

 

The mission of The Episcopal Church is "to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ." This is stated clearly in The Book of Common Prayer, which is not only the worship book of the Episcopal Church but is also full of devotional and teaching resources for individuals and congregations. The Book of Common Prayer is also the primary symbol of our unity: we, who are many and diverse, come together in Christ through our worship, our common prayer. Worship grounds all that we do, and we gather for Eucharist (Holy Communion) each Sunday night starting with worship at 6 pm followed by a free community meal at 7:00pm.
